Institutional FAQ

How does commercial support interact with the GPLv3 license?

The GNU General Public License v3.0 explicitly protects and encourages paid services, training, maintenance agreements, and commercial distribution. While the open-source client remains freely available, institutional support agreements, guaranteed bug fix SLAs, and custom server infrastructure are professional engineering services provided under standard commercial contracts.

Can JSMARS be written directly into NASA ROSES or NSF grant proposals?

Yes. Dr. Sounny can be included as a funded Co-Investigator (Co-I) or software engineering subcontractor to build custom WebGIS tools, band-math models, and public dissemination portals required by NASA TOPS (Transform to Open Science) mandates.

Can our university pay via Purchase Order (PO) or department credit card?

Yes. We provide formal institutional quotes, W-9 forms, vendor registration packets, and invoices compatible with university procurement and grant accounting systems.
